Constantine before 1830
Constantine was built 3,000 years before Christ.
Massinissa made it its capital: Cirta.
During the Roman invasion, it was destroyed, then rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Constantine I who baptized it with his name, as he did with Constantinople.
In the 7th century, the city was taken over by the Arabs, the bearers of Islam.
Constantine came under the control of Muslim dynasties, such as the Hafsids, before being taken by the Ottomans in the 16th century.
