Kasbah Street
The Casbah extends over 45 hectares and demonstrates a homogeneous urban form in an original and rugged site (118 meters of drop). The wealth of the city is reflected in the interior decorations of the homes, often ordered around a central square courtyard forming an atrium. The winding and steep streets are also a characteristic element of the old town. it also houses twelve mosques including the Djamâa el-Kébir mosque from the 11th century. The citadel, which housed several residential palaces and religious buildings where Algerian power was located before 1830, has been the subject of a vast restoration plan since 1985.
