The Bab Azzoun suburb was the expanse located outside the Bab Azzoun gate, beyond the city walls, along the sea to Fort Tafourah.
Shepherds loved to bring their flocks of sheep and cattle to graze there, because the place was so calm and the vegetation was so dense.
It had many ravines, some of which were very steep and crossing them on foot was difficult and dangerous.
A road to the west connected it to the Mitidja plain, while another left it along the sea to the east.
