The Admiralty of Algiers is one of the symbols of the city, as Algiers has always been combined with the sea.
It had its moment of glory when Khayr-Eddine Barberousse regained control of the port who, after destroying the penon thanks to which the Spanish had the city in their sights, built the pier which bears his name by connecting the islets and reefs which faced Algiers.
His successors will carry out several developments and improvements until making it one of the most renowned ports in the Mediterranean.
Foreigners and traders coming from the West by sea to Algiers accessed the city through the Admiralty vault which was called Bab Dzira.
