Aqueduct near Algiers before 1830
The Hamma aqueduct was built in 1662 by the Andalusian Sta Moussa and consolidated in 1758 by Ali Pasha.
He brought water from the Hamma source to the city over 5 km, entering through Bab Azzoun.
The Aïn Zeboudja aqueduct took its source at Ben Aknoun to reach the Casbah via the Tagarins over 19 km.
It is the only one of the ancient aqueducts of which some ruins remain.
Algiers was supplied with water thanks to four aqueducts built to replace wells and cisterns (djeb).
