Houari-Boumediène University of Technological Sciences of Algiers
The Houari-Boumediène University of Science and Technology (USTHB), east of Algiers, is part of this desire to develop knowledge. With its ever-increasing numbers, USTHB is characterized above all by its scientific and technical potential known to be the highest in the country. Created in 1974, five kilometers from the Houari-Boumediène international airport, the USTHB is undoubtedly the pride of the commune of Bab Ezzouar where it is located. Its prestige is not only linked to its size, but also to its contribution to the widespread dissemination of knowledge. The Mentouri University of Constantine, designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, is the other pride of Algeria. Since 1971, it has welcomed Algerian and foreign students spread across the different campuses. True to its reputation as a cultural and religious city, Constantine is home to the University of Islamic Sciences. It was inaugurated in 1984 at the same time as the Emir Abdelkader Grand Mosque, a magnificent architectural monument, with which it shares the premises. In order to fill a void in technical education in the west of the country, the University of Science and Technology of Oran was created. This university was built gradually according to the needs and means of the time. From 1975 to January 1979, teaching was provided in the premises of the Ecole Normale Supérieure d’enseignement Polytechnique (ENSEP). The start of the second semester 1978-1979 took place in the premises of the Institute of Civil and Mechanical Engineering of Oran (IGCMO), initially designed to exclusively receive students from these two disciplines. In order to avoid the movement of students to universities in the center and east of the country, other sectors have been admitted to this university. These are electronics, electrical engineering, maritime engineering, architecture and optometry.
