Es Sénia Oran aerodrome
A privileged instrument of development and trade, air transport occupies an important place in the Algerian transport system. In the short and medium term, the major concern is to make airport infrastructure profitable and to carry out their rehabilitation. The geographical context, the development of industrial zones and even transit make certain regions of the country, notably the South, dependent to a certain extent on the use of aircraft.
In the North, airport development is generally focused on improving and strengthening international air connections. The achievements recorded in terms of infrastructure have generated remarkable changes making it possible to provide Algeria with efficient airport infrastructure. An integral part of the public domain of the State, the aerodromes spread across the entire national territory benefited on April 18, 1989, following Decree No. 89-50, from a new classification.
The latter took into account the location and harmonious distribution of aerodromes across the vast national territory, whether they are open to public air traffic or not, their characteristics and their capacity to cope with the operation of various air services.
The Oran-Es-Sénia international aerodrome is classified in the first category. It becomes usable in all circumstances. It is served by large-capacity, long- and medium-haul aircraft intended for international and national air services. It must include all the infrastructure and safety equipment necessary for its technical and commercial operation.
The international aerodromes of Tébessa and Tamanrasset are placed in the second category. Same requirements for Oran, apart from a service limited to medium capacity devices. In 1987, the airport system consisted of 30 aerodromes open to public air traffic, of which 11 were open to international traffic.
