Locust Control
In 1988, Algeria experienced the most intense locust activity in the last thirty years. This veritable invasion of the desert locust required the mobilization of considerable human, material and financial resources to treat an area of more than 2 million hectares of swarms and hopper bands.
Until the end of 1987, an invasion of this magnitude was not expected. Depending on the season, the infiltrations came from this or that other country bordering the south. By following certain corridors, larval activity progressed from Tindouf to the northern regions with a summer respite. The control system was deployed in the Saharan region from the beginning of February to stop the scourge and reduce this infiltration in the Hauts Plateaux, Tell and neighboring countries.
