In this year 1990, Algeria is hosting the 17th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) football. Bringing together the flagship of African football every two years, the African Cup of Nations is undoubtedly a major event in African sporting life, being one of the oldest competitions organized at the continental level.
Particularly popular, it draws its success from the fact that it concerns a qualified discipline recognized as the king sport in Africa, namely football, which remains very popular and the source of all sporting legends in African countries.
But in addition to the sporting and competitive dimension, the African Cup of Nations is also the place and time of a large gathering of African youth who find there the opportunity to renew and strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between all members of the great family of African football.
It is also the ideal framework for measuring the evolution of the technical level, supervision and performance of continental football which, on this occasion, will hold its meetings to appreciate the work accomplished by its authorities and outline its prospects.
In order to bring together all the conditions for success, our country has implemented an organization and logistics worthy of the interest it places in African sport and most in line with international standards when it comes to major sporting gatherings.
Sports infrastructure, reception, stay, transport, media coverage have been the subject of careful preparation by the authorities concerned so that the Algerian edition of this 17th CAN is the celebration of African sport and football. If the eight nations present at this meeting are preparing to offer spectators and television viewers a choice platform where exploits and emulation will compete for the stage in a spirit of fair play and fraternity, it is however certain that the big winner of this 17th edition of the African Cup of Nations will be African sport in general and football in particular.
