Rock Paintings of Tassili N'ajjer Berger Peuhl
Rock drawings of Tassili N’Ajjer True chronicles of the daily life of prehistoric man present in the region, the cave paintings of Tassili N'Ajjer are considered the works of the first artists of humanity. These paintings adorn the walls of cave shelters spread across the vast desert of the Tassili N’Ajjer plateau, in southern Algeria. Oued Djerrat, Jabbaren, Tissoukal, In Intimien, among others, are the richest regions. They constitute a real open-air museum. These frescoes, some of which are gigantic, date back to the Neolithic period, more than 10,000 years before our era, corresponding to the prosperous period of prehistory, marked by the first settlements and the appearance of agriculture. A period of accumulation of wealth which offers the greatest number of rock paintings characterized by the grace and finesse of the designs. Men and women, most often with slender silhouettes and Negroid features, devote themselves to daily household chores. Or hunters armed with a javelin pursuing prey… These are the most recurring themes with representations of bovids. A special place is also reserved for chariots which are found at the heart of many myths.
