National Road No. 51 El Goléa Timimoun
RN 51 El Goléa-Timimoun Construction of RN 51 began in November 1967. This road will connect the oasis of El Goléa to that of Timimoun, thus creating the modern transverse link between the Saharan departments of Oases and Saoura. As part of the major development works on the Saharan road network, an important link has linked, since June 1967, the town of Béchar, capital of the Saoura department, to the oasis of Tindouf located 818 km further south. National Road No. 51 will in turn improve modern road connections in the Sahara. It will make it possible to establish a safe and rapid connection in the east-west direction, thus removing the many constraints and dangers of the old track. This road has the following characteristics: 460 km in length, 8 m wide platform and 4 m wide carriageway allowing speeds of up to 120 km/hour. The work will be completed in February 1969.
