Protection of Mother and Child by Baya
The basic cell of society, the family is, in Algeria, placed under the protection of the State. A young population estimated at nearly 57% under the age of 20 thus falls under the protection of the family as a whole. Also, the Public Health and Population services have taken administrative and technical measures for the creation of a mother and child protection service. Fifteen departmental maternal and child protection centers are currently operating and are in the process of being fully integrated into the country's health structures. Technical and material assistance from voluntary organizations is allocated to them. Their establishment at the level of the wilaya capital meets the need for a planned network that crisscrosses the territory. The basic principles of maternal and child protection centers are prevention, an essentially educational and preventive activity, free access for all and accessibility through judicious implementation. Their activity is carried out in close collaboration with curative services: maternity, gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, etc. The fight against the deficiencies encountered in women and children, the reduction in the mortality rate, the increase in life expectancy, the decline in disease, these are the noble ideals that the maternal and child protection services want to achieve to ensure normal and harmonious development for mothers and children within the community in which they live and to enable them to make their contribution to the successful development of society. For their part, the medical and paramedical staff working in these centers are convinced of the importance of their prevention work, the results of which depend not only on professional qualities, but also on human qualities. Long embryonic, family protection, an educational and preventive activity, is currently experiencing significant development. The existing structures make it possible to envisage preventive medicine which will become more effective each year. This is a fundamental condition for reducing the high rate of maternal and infant mortality and thereby ensuring family stability.
