50th Anniversary of the Recovery of National Sovereignty over the RTA
The long process of the Algerian revolution will lead to the independence of the country, on July 5, 1962. In the enthusiasm of this victory, the Algerians are preparing to celebrate the first anniversary of the outbreak of the war of liberation, on November 1, 1954. On the eve of this historic date, October 28, 1962, RTA officials removed the French flag and hoisted the Algerian flag in its place. This is how October 28 will be dedicated as the symbolic date of the recovery of national sovereignty over RTA. After the departure of the French technicians, the Algerian workers took over, in a patriotic spirit, to ensure the continuity of the operation of broadcasting. At the very beginning, the RTA broadcast only three radio programs on low-power transmitters as well as three regional television programs in Algiers, Oran and Constantine. From 1965, the State invested through several programs to give this company a new start. This investment, made in a relatively short time, led to the extension and modernization of the national radio and television networks, the coverage of the south of the country by satellite transmission, the equipping of production centers with modern equipment, and subsequently the introduction of color on television. Furthermore, the changes that have occurred in the broadcasting environment, as well as the rapid progress in technology, have not left Algerian radio indifferent. To adapt to these changes, it has undertaken the major project of digitization and has taken over the web with the creation of a multimedia information website in both languages, Arabic and French. The perpetual development of information technologies and the competition which characterizes the media environment, force radio to engage in the race for modern equipment and to establish bridges with the media of other countries. Algerian Radio currently sits in several organizations.
