Diplodus sargus (Sar)
It lives in coastal waters on rocky and sandy bottoms up to 50 m. Gregarious, from the Sparidae family, this fish is light gray with silvery reflections. Bears numerous dark longitudinal lines more or less marked along the rows of the scales and 8-9 alternating gray vertical stripes, dark and lighter, fading then disappearing with age. Its candal is lined with black, its average size varies between 15 and 30 cm and can reach up to 45 cm. Called in Algeria El Kantchour, Sargo or Tambour. It is caught by beach seine trawls, gill nets, bottom longlines and hand lines. Reproduction takes place in May-June. It reaches maturity at 02 years old. The young are omnivorous while the adults are carnivorous.
